Share Text Online with Link: Send a URL, Not the Whole Note
Share text online with a link when you cannot read a note out loud. Create a unique Airclippy URL, send it, and let the recipient copy the text.
Share text online with link is the cleanest remote handoff: you do not paste the whole note into a chat. You paste a short Airclippy URL. The recipient opens it and copies the real text, including line breaks and characters that chat apps mangle.
This is the right method when the note is long, ugly, or slightly sensitive, and the other person is not in the same room.
Why a Link Beats Pasting Into Chat
Chat will:
- Break indentation in code
- Preview a URL as a giant card
- Store the secret in searchable history
- Truncate a long paste on some phones
A share link keeps the payload on the clipboard page. Chat only carries the pointer. If you used a 1-hour share, the pointer dies with the note. If you used burn-after-read, the pointer works once.
How to Share Text Online with a Link
- Open airclippy.com/share
- Paste the text
- Choose Global for a remote share. Stay on 1 hour unless you are signed in and need a longer expiry
- Optionally enable encryption or burn-after-read
- Tap Share
- Copy the /share/… URL from the confirmation
- Send that URL
The recipient opens the URL. They do not need an account. They copy the text.
You also get a 4-digit code and a QR code. Use the code when you are on a voice call. Use the QR when the other device can scan your screen.
Link, Code, or Feed?
- Link: best for chat, email, and tickets
- Code: best for voice
- Live feed: best when both tabs are already open
You can use all three for the same note. The link is the one that travels.
What the Link Points To
Each share gets an id, such as airclippy.com/share/abc123. That page loads the note. Guest shares last one hour. Signed-in users can pick 1 day, 7 days, or 1 month so the same URL still works later.
If you only wanted one coworker to see the note, do not use a lasting share. Send the Global link and let it expire.
Making the Link Safer
- Enable encryption and send the password on a different channel
- Enable burn-after-read so a forwarded link dies after the first view
- Use Same Network and skip the public internet if you are in the same office
- Do not put the password in the same chat as the link
A link is as secret as the people you send it to. Treat it like a document URL, not like a password manager.
Sharing a Link to a Link
If the note itself is a long URL, you have two tools. Paste the long URL into /share, or shorten it at /url-shortener first and then share the short one. The shortener is for one destination. The clipboard is for anything, including a bundle of URLs.
When the Link 404s
The note expired, was burned, or was deleted. Create it again. 1-hour shares are supposed to vanish. If you needed a week, you needed a longer signed-in expiry or a real document.
When a longer link is worth signing in
A 1-hour link is enough if the other person is at their desk. Sign in before you pick 1 day or longer if they might open it after dinner, after a weekend, or after a flight.
Anyone with the URL can open a non-encrypted note. A longer clock does not add privacy. It only adds time. Encryption and burn-after-read still matter more than the calendar.
Link hygiene
Shorten nothing secret with a public shortener if the destination URL already contains a token. Share that kind of URL as a 1-hour encrypted note instead. For ordinary https links, either paste them into the clipboard or run them through /url-shortener first.
If you paste the Airclippy share link into a ticket system, remember that tickets are forever. A 1-hour note will 404 later. That is good for secrets and annoying for documentation. Put durable instructions in the ticket body, and use the clipboard only for the bulky payload.
When you are done, you do not need to “unshare” a 1-hour link. Time does it.
If you are sending the link in Slack, email, or a ticket, say so in one sentence: “this Airclippy link lasts one hour” or “this link lasts seven days.” Recipients otherwise assume it is a Google Doc. A calendar reminder on your side is optional; a clear expiry in the message is not.
The Short Version
Share text online with a link by creating a note on Airclippy and sending the /share/ URL. Use 1-hour plus optional encryption for private handoffs. Sign in and pick a longer expiry only when the recipient truly needs more time.
